Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage

Do You Want to Create A Village That's Striving to Be Sustainable?

At Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage you can...
  • feel satisfaction knowing you are living a lifestyle that will help humanity meet its basic needs
  • experience the exhilaration of creating a revolutionary village that is pioneering an ecologically sustainable way of life
  • be part of a community of people who share your extraordinary visions for a better world
Is Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage right for you?

Dancing Rabbit is an ecovillage set amid the hills and prairies of rural northeastern Missouri.

Our goal is to live ecologically sustainable and socially rewarding lives, and to share the skills and ideas behind that lifestyle.

If you think our community might be right for you, then follow the steps listed below...

Becoming Part of Dancing Rabbit:
Step one - write us a letter via email.

A good letter briefly tells us about yourself including things such as where you're from, what you do with your time, and why you're interested in membership at Dancing Rabbit.

The equivalent of a screen full of text is a good length to shoot for. You'll get a chance to fill out our visitor questionnaire and give more info later.

Step two - set up a visit.

After you send us your letter, we'll send you a bit more info about Dancing Rabbit, and, if you and our Visitor Team think it sounds like a good match, we'll try to arrange a time for you to visit.

You can visit our community for 1-3 weeks during our 2008 visitor periods:

  • April 21 - May 12
  • May 26 - June 16
  • June 30 - July 21
  • August 4 - August 25
  • Sept 8- Sept 29

Ideally you should at least let us know a month or two in advance of the time you would like to visit because space is limited.

(You may also be interested in our work exchange opportunities.)

Here's a few things to know about visiting:

  • We have visitor groups of around 8-12 people (or sometimes more with kids), some coming for 1 week and some staying for 3.
  • The first week is heavily focused on workshops, so you can learn more about Dancing Rabbit and see all of the things we are doing to live sustainably.
  • The second and third weeks are less structured, to help you get a better sense of what day to day life is like and begin exploring what life here would really be like for you.
  • Some of the best connections with visitors come while sharing work. If you expect to pitch in and help out, you'll enjoy yourself more, you'll get into the rhythm of our life and end up wondering how your visit could go by so quickly!
  • Helping out with cooking and doing the dishes is especially welcome.
  • Most visitors camp during their stay. There are occasionally indoor spaces for rent, so let us know if you're interested in that option.
  • We also like to have fun, relax, hang out, play sports, and sometimes have parties, game nights, or talent shows. If you play an instrument or sing, you might find an enthusiastic and participatory audience.
  • If you are interested in visiting one of our neighboring communities, Sandhill Farm or Red Earth Farms, you should write them separately and mention that you would like to coordinate with your visit to DR (tell us too, of course).
Step three - Join Our Ecovillage.

After your visit, the sky is the limit!

If you're interested in membership or residency, talk with our Membership and Residency Committee to work out next steps.

Or, if Dancing Rabbit isn’t right for you right now, hopefully we can find other ways to stay in touch for our mutual enjoyment and benefit.
